GI Joe 1992

1992 was another fairly reserved year for the GI Joe toy line, as Hasbro continued to scale back the quantity of items released. There were still some great releases though, with a new large scale playset in the Joe Headquarters, along with two new sub-sets (Ninja Force and DEF Force). Hasbro also brought back the Eco-Warriors, but the coolest new sub-series were the Talking Battle Commanders. Once again, there was an unusually small number of vehicles released.

For more information about Hasbro’s GI Joe line from 1992, see bottom of the page for a complete summary.

1992 was another fairly quiet year for the GI Joe toy line, as Hasbro continued to scale back the quantity of items released each year. That being said, there were still some great releases in 1992. We got a new large scale playset in the Joe Headquarters, along with two new sub-sets (Ninja Force and DEF Force). Hasbro also brought back the Eco-Warriors, but the coolest new sub-series were the talking battle commanders. Once again, there was an unusually small number of vehicles released, as Hasbro only produced 7 new vehicles and a few to go along with the various sub-sets.

New to the Joe lineup in 1992 was Barricade and General Flagg, along with newer versions of fan favorites such as Roadblock, Gung-Ho, Wet-Suit, Wild Bill and Duke. Cobra gave us some great looking new figures as well, such as Big Bear and Flak-Viper, along with new versions of Firefly, Cobra Eels, and Destro. As stated above, we got two new sub-sets in 1992 with Ninja Force and DEF Force, along with the return of Eco-Warriors. Hasbro finally gave us an old school large scale playset with the GI Joe Headquarters. This set looks similar to other Joe HQ’s in the past, but still had enough different accessories to give this new Headquarters some character.

As was the the new norm for Hasbro, they continued with the colorful packaging, instead of the standard black background. Some still had the regular black packing but most did not. As always, each card had the figure in front of an explosion or other backdrop piece, with a red or blue color scheme. The new sub-set lines also had different packaging with the DEF and Ninja Force cards looking different with their own design.
