Original Trilogy Collection
2004 – 2005
The Original Trilogy Collection was introduced in 2004, with new sculpts of our favorite original trilogy characters. The second wave is known as “Post OTC” or the “Transitional” wave due to including prequel characters. The packaging for the Original Trilogy Collection brought back the iconic Star Wars silver stripes along the borders of the card. The line included 54 figures, exclusives, multipacks, and a new series called the Vintage Original Trilogy Collection, which mirrored original packaging from the 1970’s.
For more information about Hasbro’s Original Trilogy Collection, see bottom of the page for a complete summary.

The Original Trilogy Collection was introduced in 2004 to re-capture that original trilogy magic from the 70’s and 80’s with new sculpts and molds of all of our favorite characters from the original trilogy movies. The first wave included only OTC characters, but the second wave contained a few prequel figures as well. The second wave is also known as “Post OTC” or “Transitional” wave. The reason for this is that Hasbro wanted to keep the same iconic packaging, but include characters from all movies instead of just the originals to keep the line going. You couldn’t very well have a Queen Amidala figure in an Original Trilogy Collection package, so Hasbro modified the title a bit
The packaging for the Original Trilogy Collection was absolutely beautiful. It brought back the iconic Star Wars silver stripes along the borders of the card, while properly framing the figure itself. The photos on each card were colorful and vibrant, and really allowed each figure to seamlessly blend into the background. The great thing about these background pictures is that you could take the same figure, such as Darth Vader, and put it on three different cards with different backgrounds and collectors will still buy it because the background gives it a completely different feel and look. The Post OTC figures featured the same classic silver striping but dropped the Original Trilogy Collection logo in favor of simply the character’s name.
For a smaller line, Hasbro really made the most of the Original Trilogy Collection. They also included newly designed figures, which were placed on the original vintage cards from the 70’s and 80’s called the Vintage Original Trilogy Collection. These figures came in a protective clamshell package that allowed you to take them out for display purposes, while still guaranteeing their protection when stored. Along with some fun sub-sets and vehicles, Hasbro really hit a home run with the Original Trilogy Collection. This line remains popular with collectors, and can still be found for very reasonable prices on the secondary market.
