Power Rangers Turbo – 1997
The Power Rangers returned for their fifth season in 1997, and once again, the team evolved into a different theme. This time, the team was revealed as the “Turbo Rangers”, with each Ranger having a unique vehicle to pilot. The Turbo Rangers were featured in the second feature length Power Rangers movie, which prefaced the series. This series introduced several new characters, including a new main villain, Divatox, and said goodbye to favorites, Zordon and Alpha 5.

The Power Rangers continued to follow a continuous story line that evolved with each new season. The 1997 version was of course, the Turbo Power Rangers. This team still had a couple of the older and known characters, but there were several new additions. This would also mark the last season of fan-favorite, Tommy Oliver. Vehicles were heavily featured in this season, and we also saw the second feature length Power Rangers movie with the “Turbo Power Rangers Movie”. The design of the Power Rangers outfits also changed a bit for this season, to fit the Turbo Ranger design.
The Turbo Rangers consisted of five Power Ranger characters, Blue Ranger, Green Ranger, Pink Ranger, Red Ranger, and Yellow Ranger. They would be joined by the mysterious Phantom Ranger and the Blue Senturion, an intergalactic police officer from the future. Once again, these Rangers would battle various villains called “Evil Space Aliens”, but this time they were led by the evil Divatox and Elgar. Like past versions, multiple waves of Turbo Rangers would fill retail toy aisles in 1997, featuring the Rangers and evil aliens.
The Turbo Ranger figures and accessories proved to very popular with the kids who were watching the show at the time. The release of teh Turbo Power Ranger feature movie certainly assisted with that popularity. Toy sales and show ratings were still both going strong and the lineup changes didn’t seem to hurting the brand. New uniforms and Zords just meant more new action figures and toys to sell. Most items from the Turbo Ranger line of 1997 can still be easily found on the secondary market nowadays, with the bigger Zords being among the more coveted items.
