The Clone Wars 2008 – 2011

The Clone Wars 2008 – 2011

The Clone Wars line began in 2008, and it ran until 2011. Hasbro capitalized on the successful animated series, which was airing on the Cartoon Network at the time. The Clone Wars line was huge, and encompassed a lot of different characters from the Clone Wars series. This was another very popular line for Hasbro, especially with the younger generation. The packaging mirrored that of the Legacy Collection, which had been simultaneously released. The 3rd wave stands out as among Hasbro’s best work.

For more information about Hasbro’s The Clone Wars line, see bottom of the page for a complete summary.

The Clone Wars line began in 2008 and it ran all the way into 2011. With this line, Hasbro really capitalized on the ultra successful Clone Wars animated series, which was airing on the Cartoon Network at the time. Hasbro had previously released a successful Clone Wars toy line back in 2003, so this was basically a much larger and more detailed version of that line. The Clone Wars action figure series was a huge line that encompassed a lot of different characters from the Clone Wars series. The variety of characters was really rock solid and Hasbro did a great job at not overproducing a bunch of Anakin, Obi-Wan, and same old Clone figures. As far as the actual clones went, there were some great looking clones and clone leaders in this line of all different types.

Strangely enough, the packaging changed a bit each year with this line. The initial wave of packaging in 2008 featured a Clone Trooper helmet as the package background and it closely resembled the Legacy Collection packaging. The only difference was that “The Clone Wars” replaced “Legacy Collection”. The second wave, released in 2009, was also a re-tread of the Legacy collection by using the white card with red lettering, and a portrait of the character on top. The third wave, released in 2010, finally showed a bit more creativity by making the cards a dark blue with ominous looking clouds mixed in, along with a Clone figure in the forefront. This unique packaging design is why this particular wave is known as the Dark Skies series.

This was another hugely popular line for Hasbro, especially with the younger generation. Collectors also loved the series with all the new characters that were introduced. The packaging on the first two waves can get a bit confusing, since they are virtually identical to the Legacy Collection line with only the series title separating them apart. They often get mistook for one another. The third wave really stood out as outstanding work by Hasbro. This line in general was a home run and really capitalized on the popular Clone Wars animated series. Most of the Clone Wars figures can be easily found on the secondary market at reasonable prices, but there are also several that can fetch much higher prices due their rarity and popularity. The ship and vehicles also typically run a bit on the high side when it comes to pricing, but still mostly within reason. This is a great line to collect, but it can definitely turn into a daunting task to track down all the various figures and accessories.
