The Legacy Collection 2008 – 2010

Hasbro introduced the Legacy Collection in 2008, which ran until 2010. This line combined all mediums of the Star Wars universe to date. The Legacy Collection was a large line that was meant to mirror the Clone Wars line, which had been simultaneously released. Each basic figure also included a droid piece that could be assembled. The line also included two waves of Saga Legends figures, which were just re-packs.

The Legacy Collection (2008 – 2010): Vehicles & Creatures

Once again, Hasbro really nailed it with their new Legacy Collection vehicles. This was not Hasbro’s biggest series of vehicles, but the ones they did release were high quality with many being new sculpts. Most vehicles were available in both of the packaging variants, blue and red.

Hasbro introduced their Legacy Collection line in 2008, and it ran all the way through the end of 2010. This line combined all mediums of the Star Wars universe to include the Original Trilogy, Prequel Trilogy, Clone Wars Animated Series and the Expanded Universe. The Legacy Collection line was meant to complement the Clone Wars line, which had been simultaneously released. Both lines even shared the same packaging design. The concept was the Clone Wars line would focus on the wildly successful animated series, while the Legacy Collection would include a little bit of everything. Each wave was themed to a certain movie, timeline or theme to make the figure groupings more cohesive. Hasbro also greatly improved on the sculpts with their Legacy Collection line, along with a wide assortment of different and new characters.

The main gimmick of this line was that each figure included a piece of a certain droid. When you collected all the figures for that particular droid, you could put it together (The droids are colored in red on this guide). The piece included in each package could be seen when you turned the card over on the back. There was also a “1st day of issue” sticker that was placed on certain figures that were part of the very first wave in stores from 2008. The Legacy line also included two waves of Saga Legends figures, which were basically re-packs with not much new to offer.

The packaging on the first wave of Legacy Collection was actually quite nice with the figures placed over a large Clone Trooper helmet. The second wave ditched the clone trooper design for a more traditional artwork of the character on a red lettered card. That being said, the artwork is quite nice and maintains a simple classiness to it. The Legacy Collection packaging exactly mirrored the Clone Wars packaging with the only difference being the title.
