Depending on who you ask, there were only 500 of these figures produced and they were given to vendors and theater licensees to promote the upcoming film, Star Trek: First Contact. If Playmates thought 1994 was a big year for their Star Trek toy license, then 1995 must have really knocked them over. Playmates released a ton of new Star Trek products this year, including figures and accessories from every Star Trek medium to date. Even though the Next Generation series had just ended the year before on May 23, 1994, after 7 seasons and 178 episodes, the Next Generation toy line would go on for one more year. In addition to the Next Generation series, Playmates released a second wave of action figures based on the television series, Deep Space Nine. With Star Trek proving to be a ratings force at this time, Paramount released another new brand new television show, called Star Trek Voyager. This show would focus on the crew of the USS Voyager, which would be set in an entirely different part of the galaxy than the Next Generation and Deep Space Nine. In addition to the standard action figure lines, Playmates also released a line based on the classic movies with the original crew, along with a mixed series line that would include characters from all different mediums. With Star Trek having massive success and big television ratings, all of the Playmates toy lines were also selling very well. The Star Trek world was ever expanding, so Star Trek toys were becoming hot again. Star Trek had been re-introduced to a new audience, who was seeing Star Trek for the first time on television with the new shows and they liked what they saw.

For its fourth year of releasing Star Trek products, Playmates spread the love across several various Star Trek mediums including the The Next Generation, Deep Space Nine, Classic Series and the brand new show, Star Trek Voyager. It was the biggest year to date for Playmates and Star Trek. The Next Generation saw only four new figures released, as well as three new light and sound ships and three new roleplaying items. The second wave of Deep Space Nine products consisted of twelve brand new figures, but no accessories. The new Voyager line saw nine new figures, along with a lights and sounds Voyager ship. The original series finally got some love from Playmates with its classic movies line. A new series of mixed characters was introduced that included figures from all Star Trek mediums. Like the previous year, Playmates continued their 9″ figure line as the Collectors Edition with nine new figures. Playmates also released a new 7″ line of Next Generation figures called Space Talk, that were able to speak three different phrases. That was a ton of new Star Trek product hitting the market in one year with no signs of stopping.

Since Playmates released several different lines for various television series and movies, the packaging for each line was completely different to match each one. The Next Generation figures series was similar to the previous year, with the classic Star Trek Next Generation logo across the top of the card, across an illustration of the Enterprise flying forward. The Deep Space Nine cards were also similar to the previous year, featuring a backdrop of the classic space station but with a different color theme. The Voyager figure packaging was a colorful card with the Voyager ship at the top of the card, orbiting a planet. The classic movie line had the original series logo with the traditional vintage look to it, along with the original Enterprise across the top. Overall, each line of figures linked perfectly to its corresponding series very well , and was another example of beautifully done packaging for Playmate’s various Star Trek lines.
