The Thirtieth Anniversary Collection was released in 2007 to celebrate the 30th Anniversary of the initial release of Star Wars, Episode IV in 1977. Hasbro really pulled out all the stops for this line, as we saw the release of many different characters that we had not seen before. We also had the inclusion of several figures based off the concept art by the legendary Ralph McQuarrie from many years ago. A special coin was also included with each figure, featuring the corresponding character. The character selection for this line was second to none and the sculpts were simply amazing. Each figure was detailed with some really fantastic weapons and accessories as well.
The packaging was absolutely beautiful on this series, with a unique die-cut shape and color scheme that we had not seen before. The 30th Anniversary logo was prominently featured across the top of the card with some great looking artwork of the character next to it. With the included coin and the standout colors, this series of figures really stood apart from past lines. As with the Saga Collection, Hasbro once again released several figures on the Ultimate Galactic Hunt cards, which was basically the regular issued cards, but were done in a gold foil.
The 30th Anniversary Collection was a very successful line for Hasbro and has proven to be very popular, even to this day. This line remains as one of my personal favorites for it’s creativity, wide assortment of characters and beautiful packaging. I love the McQuarrie concept art figures, as well the fabulous coins. For the modern wave of Star Wars lines, Hasbro set the standard with the 30th Anniversary Collection. Most of the items from this line are still within reason on the secondary market, which makes this series a perfect one for collectors and completists.
