Tex Willer – 1974
Tex Willer is the main fictional old west character from the Italian comics series called Tex. The series was created back in 1948 and was among the most popular Italian comics ever. The series borrowed from the American West and even used real life characters such as Kit Carson and Ulysses S. Grant. The Tex Willer line was still manufactured by Mego by released under the umbrella of Mego distributor Baravelli, which was an Italian company. The small line consisted of Kit Willer, Tiger Jack, Kit Carson and the man himself, Tex Willer. These figures borrowed from pre-existing Mego molds and are sought after by Mego collectors for their colorful costuming and uniqueness. These figures were only made available in Italy.

The Tex Willer action figure line included a total of four figures in 1974. There was Kit Carson (Best friend to Tex), Tiger Jack (Navajo warrior and ally to Tex), Kit Willer (Tex’s son) and of course the main character Tex Willer. Each of these figures used pre-existing molds from other Mego characters. Even though the head sculpts were not original, the costumes were certainly unique. In fact, the costumes have become a fan favorite for many Mego collectors. With their fantastic use of bright colors and nicely done details, the Tex Willer line really hit a home run with their clothing accessories, which would explain their popularity to this day.
The packaging for the Tex Willer action figures was simply put, outstanding! The figures used a solid cardboard box format, which was adorned with a beautiful illustration of each character. The name of each character was directly below the illustration in bold black letters, with the Baravelli logo underneath the name. The TEX logo was at the top right with the “Super Eroi” (Italian for Super Heroes) logo at the left. The overall color scheme was a nicely done orange and yellow themed box that had that old west feel to it. The Tex Willer toy line sold well enough at the time in Italy, but never made it the U.S market. Nowadays, these figures are very sought after by Mego Collectors and fans.
