The Star Trek Movie action figure line of 2009 by Playmates included three different formats of figures, along with playsets and accessories. The standard figures included all of the main Enterprise crew, Captain Kirk, Spock, Scotty, Sulu, Cadet McCoy, Cadet Chekov and Cadet Uhura. Also included were Captain Pike, Nero and the Original Prime Spock. Each of those 10 figures were offered in a 6 inch “Warp Collection” and a 3.75″ Galaxy Collection. The 12 inch figures included Kirk, Spock, McCoy and Original Spock, with Sulu and Pike being Toys R Us exclusives. There was two playsets, Enterprise Bride and Transporter Room, a few roleplay accessories (Phaser, Tricorder, Communicator) and a lights & sounds U.S.S Enterprise.
The packaging for Playmate’s Star Trek Movie figures was certainly unique looking and innovative. The 3.75″ and 6″ figures used a standard blister pack, with each figure centered on the card. The cards with the plastic blister pack were shaped in a unique die-cut design. The name of each character was to the bottom right with the Star Trek Movie centered at the top of the card. The iconic Starfleet logo was at the bottom left of each card. The backing on each figure featured the other figures of the wave and all figures had the same card back. The 12″ figures used a similar packaging design but in a box format, while the roleplay accessories used a plastic blister pack instead of boxed as in the past.
