Princess of Power (Wave 3) – 1987

Princess of Power Wave 3 – 1987

Mattel ended the Princess of Power toy line in 1987 after three fantastic waves of figures and accessories. The animated series had already came to an end the year before, on December 2, 1986. The third and final wave of Princess of Power provided only five new figures, including new versions of She-Ra and Catra. Mattel also produced the last of the horse mounts with Royal Swift Wind and Silver Storm. Unsurprisingly, Mattel decided not to issue any vehicles, playsets or other accessories for this final wave.

For more information about Mattel’s Princess of Power line from 1987, see bottom of the page for a complete summary.

The final wave of figures for the Princess of Power line contained only 5 new figures, including new versions of She-Ra and Catra.

Bubble Power She-Ra

Market Value:
Carded $1,200 – $1,600
Loose $500 – $600

Bubble Power She-Ra: The Great Rebellion
Accessories: Cape, Choker, Armor, Sword, Shield, Headdress, Bubble Liquid, Comb, Mini-Comic
Years Released: 1987
Difficulty To Find: Hard to Find – Occasionally listed, and usually sells quickly
Notes: Bubble Power She-Ra was the third version of She-Ra released for the Princess of Power line. The premise was simple enough: Attach the bubble blower onto She-Ra’s arm, fill it with bubble liquid, and blow on it while turning the bubble dial. Then she’s ready to shoot deadly bubbles at her enemies. She-Ra came with: Cape, Choker, Armor, Sword, Shield, Headdress, Bubble Liquid, Bubble Blower, Comb, Mini-Comic. Like the other figures from this wave, they had lower production numbers and are tough to find on the secondary market nowadays.

Loo-Kee

Market Value:
Carded $1,750 – $2,250
Loose $700 – $800

Loo-Kee: The Great Rebellion
Accessories: Brush, Comb, Mini-Comic
Years Released: 1987
Difficulty To Find: Hard to Find – Occasionally listed, and usually sells quickly
Notes: Loo-Kee was sort of a odd looking troll character that joined the Great Rebellion. Loo-Kee actually has wheels on his feet. Place Loo-Kee on a flat surface. Push him to wind up wheels, then Let him go! Like most figures in this final wave, Loo-Kee is a very tough figure to find still in package nowadays and will not be cheap to buy. He comes with a brush, comb and mini-comic.

Netossa

Market Value:
Carded $500 – $650
Loose $250 – $350

Netossa: The Great Rebellion
Accessories: Armor, Helmet, Cape, Shield, Comb, Mini-Comic
Years Released: 1987
Difficulty To Find: Moderate Difficulty – Takes patience and appears less often
Notes: Netossa was another ally to She-Ra and the Great Rebellion. Her special feature is that her flowing cape becomes a net to capture her enemies…….hence the name Netossa. She comes with her signature cape, helmet, armor piece, shield, comb and mini-comic. Like the other figures in this last wave, Netossa had lower production numbers, so it can be a bit harder (and pricier) to find on the secondary market than earlier releases.

Shower Power Catra

Market Value:
Carded $850 – $1,050
Loose $350 – $450

Shower Power Catra: The Evil Horde
Accessories: Cape, Skirt, Belt, Cat Mask, Face Shield, Sword, Water Gun, Comb, Mini-Comic
Years Released: 1987
Difficulty To Find: Hard to Find – Occasionally listed, and usually sells quickly
Notes: Shower Power Catra was Catra’s third different version, just in time for the line’s final wave. This version shoots water through a shower squirter when you squeeze the pump. Shower Power Catra comes with her Cape, Skirt, Belt, Cat Mask, Shield, Sword, Shower Squirter, Comb and Mini-Comic. This final wave version of Catra is tough to find on the secondary market and will likely not be cheap.

Spinnerella

Market Value:
Carded $2,400 – $3,000
Loose $950 – $1,150

Spinnerella: The Great Rebellion
Accessories: Belt, Cuffs with Streamers, Shield, Stand, Hair-Piece, Comb, Mini-Comic
Years Released: 1987
Difficulty To Find: Hard to Find – Occasionally listed, and usually sells quickly
Notes: Spinnerella was part of the third and final wave of Princess of Power figures in 1987. She had a feature that would allow her to spin around when connected to her stand. She came with a Belt, Cuffs with Streamers, Shield, Stand, Hair-Piece, Comb, and Mini-Comic. All of the Princess of Power figures from this wave can be difficult to find on the secondary market, but Spinnerella is definitely the hardest to find of the series.

Royal Swift Wind

Market Value:
Boxed $850 – $1,050
Loose $350 – $450

Royal Swift Wind: The Great Rebellion
Accessories: Saddle, Armor, Wings, Unicorn Mask, Reigns, Comb, Mini-Comic
Years Released: 1987
Difficulty To Find: Moderate Difficulty – Takes patience and appears less often
Notes: Royal Swift Wind was the third different version of She-Ra’s faithful steed and he comes with all the bells and whistles, including fancy new gold armor. In all, he comes with Saddle, Armor, Wings, Unicorn Mask, Reigns, Comb and Mini-Comic. Royal Swift Wind can get a bit pricey on the secondary market nowadays due to a more limited production run from back in the day.

Silver Storm

Market Value:
Boxed $700 – $900
Loose $300 – $400

Silver Storm: The Evil Horde
Accessories: Saddle, Saddle Blanket, Wings, Mask, Comb, Mini-Comic
Years Released: 1987
Difficulty To Find: Hard to Find – Occasionally listed, and usually sells quickly
Notes: Storm from the first wave in 1985 makes his triumphant return for this final wave of Princess of Power items as Silver Storm, and of course, he is painted silver this time. After being replaced by Clawdeen in Wave 2, Catra decides to go back to her faithful steed. Silver Storm comes with a Saddle, Saddle Blanket, Wings, Mask, Comb, and Mini-Comic. Like many Princess of Power items from that final wave, Silver Storm can be a bit challenging to find on the secondary market, especially in the original packaging.

Mattel had done an excellent job of promoting the Princess of Power toy line with some great looking figures, creatures, sets and vehicles, but in 1987, things were not looking up in the Princess of Power and Masters of the Universe world. The Masters of the Universe animated series had been cancelled in 1985, and The Princess of Power series followed the same fate, when it finally came to an end on December 2, 1986. Without any mass media outlets to promote the lines and increased competition from other successful toy lines, such as GI Joe and Transformers, Mattel’s toy sale numbers took a massive decline. Like most toy lines throughout the years, the MOTU and POP lines ran a typical cycle and their time was just coming to an end. The Princess of Power toy line was ultimately cancelled in 1987, and Masters of the Universe officially followed the year after.

The third and final wave of the Princess of Power line, gave us only five new figures in 1987, including new versions of She-Ra and Catra. The Great Rebellion team added Loo-Kee, Netossa, Spinnerella and a new version of our favorite female hero, She-Ra, this time with Bubble Power. The Evil Horde only got one new figure and that was a new version of Catra that was named Shower Power Catra. Mattel also produced the last of the creature horses with Royal Swift Wind and Silver Storm. Unsurprisingly, Mattel decided not to issue any vehicles, playsets or other accessories for the final wave.
