The New Adventures of He-Man – Wave 2 (1990): Accessories
Mattel did not release any figure related or roleplay accessories for the second wave of He-Man toys in 1990.
The New Adventures of He-Man – Wave 2 (1990): Playsets
Mattel gave us some incredible playsets for the MOTU line during its run, and that tradition continued with the large scaled Starship Eternia Playset in 1989, and now the bad guys had a place to hang out with the brand new Nordor Playset.
Nordor Playset

Notes: Nordor is a skull shaped moon of the Planet Denebria, as well as being the primary headquarters of the Evil Mutans in the New Adventures of He-Man. This was essentially a large asteroid that can fold out into a playset, which is actually pretty cool. The exterior of the Nordor playset is actually pretty striking, with that amazing skull face and rocky fissures. When you unfold the asteroid to turn it into the Evil Mutants base. There were some fun features on this thing, such as when you flip up the skull face, it reveals a projector screen which displays two different action film strips from the red projector in front of it. There is also a computer panel, two laser guns, rotating battle door and an evil throne for Skeletor.
The New Adventures of He-Man – Wave 2 (1990): Vehicles
After releasing four new vehicles the year prior, Mattel decided that was enough for now, as they did not release any new vehicles in 1990 for Wave Two.
After a successful launch of The New Adventures of He-Man toy line in 1989, the animated series debuted in September of 1990. The series was a futuristic reboot of the classic Masters of the Universe franchise that was rebranded to appeal to a new generation. The figures moved away from the blocky designs of the classic MOTU line, with more articulation and design. This second wave included several more key characters, blending Galactic Guardian and Evil Mutant factions in a battle of good vs. evil.
Mattel gave us nine more figures for wave two in 1990, which included brand new versions of both main characters, He-Man and Skeletor. For the Galactic Guardians, we got Kayo, Nocturna, Vizar and the new Battle-Punch He-Man. For the Evil Mutants, we had Hoove, Karatti, Lizorr, Optikik and the new Disks of Doom Skeletor. In addition to the figures, we also got one large scale playset with Nordor, which now gave the bad guys a place to call home. After releasing four vehicles the year prior, Mattel did not release any for the 2nd wave in 1990.
The packaging for the New Adventures of He-Man line was certainly bright with the dark blue theme, but was kind of generic looking. The new “He-Man” logo sat at the top center of the blister pack card. The figure itself was positioned to the right of the card, while its accessories were to the left side. The name of each character was positioned just above the figure bubble in white letters. As far as the card backs go, each was unique to the character, with a short bio on the character, along with nicely illustrated breakdowns of each action feature. The packaging certainly could have helped the line a bit by leaning into what had already worked in the past, but Mattel was looking to blaze a new trail with this toy line.
