Movie Heroes/Clone Wars – 2013

Movie Heroes / Clone Wars – 2013

With the last new Star Wars movie being released in 2005 and the Clone Wars series winding down, it seemed that Hasbro was starting to run out of ideas for new Star Wars lines. Since Disney had officially purchased Lucasfilm in October of 2012, this was a bit of a strange period for the Star Wars franchise. Since nobody really knew what Disney was going to do, Hasbro rolled out a re-tread line of toys in 2013 called Movie Heroes and another sub-set called the Clone Wars.  There were 18 basic figures with all being re-releases from past lines. There was also a few vehicles and a small line of 12 inch figures.

For more information about Hasbro’s Movie Heroes/Clone Wars line, see bottom of the page for a complete summary.

This line was not very well received by fans and did not end up selling very well. The packaging design was probably the best part of this line, with the character selection and sculpts seeming to be nothing but place fillers until Disney started cranking up their Star Wars machine in earnest.

The packaging on the Star Wars Movie Heroes/Clone Wars line was actually quite nice and very eye-catching. The figures were slightly to the right on a traditional bubble pack with a die-cut card. The logo for this line was Yoda swinging his green lightsaber, with the rest of the packaging trim also done in green. The Star Wars logo was positioned at the top of the die-cut, outlined in green. The name of each character, as well as which movie they came from was directly underneath the figure. The packaging was very pleasing to the eye and really stood out on the toy aisles. As far as the line itself…..not so much. Hasbro gave us a total of 18 action figures, with most being re-issues from past lines. There were nine Movie Heroes and nine from the Clone Wars Series. In addition, we also got two 12 inch figures and several vehicles, including four that were actually new combinations put together for this line.

The Star Wars Movie Heroes/Clone Wars line was not a big success for Hasbro or Lucasfilm. Disney would go on to release their first official movie or television project the following year with Star Wars: Rebels, so 2013 was truly a bit of transition year for the Star Wars franchise. As a result, this toy line suffered a bit without a clear path or direction. Overall, the line did not sell very well, but a few of the vehicles and figures (501st Clone Trooper and Captain Rex) can reach moderate secondary market prices but most items from the Movie Heroes/Clone Wars toy line can be easily found on the secondary market.
