Movie Heroes / Clone Wars – 2012
With the last new Star Wars movie being released in 2005 and the Clone Wars series winding down, it seemed that Hasbro was starting to run out of ideas for new Star Wars lines. Since Disney had officially purchased Lucasfilm in October of 2012, this line was the last produced under the watchful eye of George Lucas’ Lucasfilm. Hasbro rolled out a re-tread line of action figures in 2012 called Movie Heroes and another sub-set called the Clone Wars. In addition, there was a 3D set of figures called “Discover The Force” that were exclusives to Walmart. This line was well received by fans, and boasts of some really fun vehicles and multipacks, but just didn’t sell very well.

This line was well received by fans, but still did not sell very well. The packaging design was another fantastic part of this line.
The packaging on the Star Wars Movie Heroes/Clone Wars line was actually quite nice and very eye-catching. The figures were slightly to the right on a traditional bubble pack with a die-cut card. The logo for this line was Darth Maul swinging his red double-blade lightsaber, with the rest of the packaging trim also done in red and dark blue. The Star Wars logo was positioned at the top of the die-cut, outlined in blue. The name of each character, as well as which movie they came from was directly underneath the figure. The packaging was very pleasing to the eye and really stood out on the toy aisles. As far as the line itself, Hasbro gave us a total of 24 Movie Hero, 18 Clone Wars and 12 Discover The Force action figures, with many being re-issues from past lines. The highlight of this line was not the action figures, as is the case with most previous lines, but rather the vehicles and multipacks. There were quite a few new additions and some great combinations of previously released figures.
The Star Wars Movie Heroes/Clone Wars line was not a big financial success for Hasbro or Lucasfilm, but was a solid effort by Hasbro to try some new things with the Star Wars franchise. Disney would go on to release several movies and shows, beginning with Rebels, so this was a bit of transition year for the Star Wars franchise. Even though the line didn’t have big sales in the toy aisles, it remains popular with fans and collectors on the secondary market. Most of the figures can still be found at reasonable prices, but many vehicles, Battle Packs and Multipacks can reach modestly higher values and are in demand. All in all, the Movie Heroes/Clone Wars/Discover The Force line in 2012 was a solid effort by Hasbro, under somewhat difficult circumstances with Disney purchasing Lucasfilm.
