Lord of the Rings – The Two Towers
(Toy Biz) 2002 – 2005

The Two Towers was released in 2002, and was the second of Peter Jackson’s epic Lord of the Rings trilogy. Expectations were very high for this follow-up to The Fellowship of the Ring, and that went for the toy line as well. The movie went on to become a smash hit, for the fans AND critics, winning numerous awards. Once again, Toy Biz released a solid effort, consisting of several waves of new and re-released figures, along with large sized figures, multipacks, gift packs and various accessories.

Two Towers (2002): Half Moon Packaging – Series 1

Toy Biz released five new figures for the premier wave of “Half-Moon” Packaged figures from The Two Towers line in 2002. Featured were Easterling, Faramir, Gandalf The White, Gondorian Ranger and Legolas in Rohan Armor.

Two Towers (2002): Half Moon Packaging – Series 2

Toy Biz released five more figures for the 2nd wave of “Half-Moon” Packaged figures from The Two Towers line in 2002. Featured were Eomer, Grima Wormtongue, King Theoden, Rohirrim Soldier and Saruman The White.

Two Towers (2002): Half Moon Packaging – Series 3

Toy Biz released only three figures for the 3rd wave of “Half-Moon” Packaged figures from The Two Towers line in 2002. This small wave included Aragorn (Strider from Fellowship of the Ring series), Frodo with Light-Up Sting and Helm’s Deep Aragorn.

Toy Biz released six figures for the 4th wave of “Half-Moon” Packaged figures from The Two Towers in 2002. Featured were Gollum with Electronic Base, King Theoden in Armor, Legolas in Rohirrim Armor, Sam with Mordor Electronic Base, Smeagol with Electronic Base and Twilight Frodo.

Toy Biz released four figures for the 5th and final wave of “Half-Moon” Packaged figures from The Two Towers in 2002. Featured were Berserker Uruk-Hai, Frodo with Elven Cloak, Grishnakh and Ugluk.

Two Towers (2004-2005): Small Card Packaging – Series 1

In 2004, Toy Biz re-released seven figures on the new small card packaging. Four of the figures were re-released from previous wave (Eomer, Helm’s Deep Aragorn, Saruman the White, Smeagol with Electronic Base) while three others (Crossbow Uruk-Hai, Eowyn, King Theoden in Armor) were brand new figures to the line.

Two Towers (2004-2005): Small Card Packaging – Series 2

Toy Biz continued the new small card packaged figures from The Two Towers line with a new 2nd wave of six additional figures. Like the previous wave, some were re-releases (Berserker Uruk-Hai, Frodo with Light-Up Sting, Gandalf the White, Gollum with Electronic Base) while two more (Helm’s Deep Legolas and Treebeard) were new additions to the line.

Two Towers (2004-2005): Small Card Packaging – Series 3

Toy Biz continued the new small card packaged figures from The Two Towers line with a new 3rd wave consisting of five figures. Unlike the previous waves, these figures were brand new and had never been seen before. Featured were Boromir Captain of Gondor, Gamling, Isengard Orc, Super Poseable Frodo and Super Poseable Helm’s Deep Aragorn.

Two Towers (2004-2005): Small Card Packaging – Series 4

Toy Biz continued the new small card packaged figures from The Two Towers line with a new 4th wave consisting of six figures. Like the previous wave, these figures were brand new and had never been seen before. Featured were Dungeons of Isengard Orc Captain, Gate of Mordor Sam, Hama of Rohan, Legolas with Arrow Launching Action, Price Theodred and Super Poseable Shagrat Uruk-Hai.

Two Towers (2004-2005): Small Card Packaging – Series 5

The 5th and final wave of the new small card packaged figures from The Two Towers line consisted of four brand new figures, that included Balrog Battle Gandalf, Battle Action Aragorn, Battle Cry Uruk-Hai Warrior and Possessed King Theoden.

Two Towers (2002): Two-Packs

Following their popular Two-Packs from the Fellowship of the Ring line, Toy Biz released three brand new Two-Packs for The Two Towers line in 2002. Included were Elf Archer & Berserker Uruk-Hai, Merry & Grishnakh, and Pippin & Ugluk. All were previously released figures except for the Elf Archer, who was a brand new figure.

Toy Biz did not release any new Three-Packs for their Two Towers line from 2002-2005.

Two Towers (2002-2004): Deluxe Horse & Rider Sets

Toy Biz continued their Deluxe House and Rider Sets for The Two Towers in 2002 with four releases. Of those four sets, Aragorn with Brego and Gandalf with Shadowfax were new. The other two sets were re-releases from previous waves, but with the new red colored packaging. It should be noted there actually two different packaging versions of Aragorn and Brego, with Aragorn standing on different sides of the box for each version.

Two Towers (2002-2005): Gift Packs

Toy Biz releases several beautiful Gift Packs throughout their run of Lord of the Rings action figures, and that certainly continued with The Two Towers in 2002. Several brand new sets made their debut, along with one previously issued Gift Pack from the Fellowship of the Ring line, but with the new red packaging. New were Helm’s Deep Battle Set, Heroes of Middle Earth Gift Pack, and the hard to find Return of Gandalf Set, which was a UK exclusive.

Two Towers (2002-2005): Large Sized Figures

As with the previous year, Toy Biz released three “Large Sized” figures, different than the traditional boxed 12″ figures. There were two re-releases, Electronic Sauron and Electronic Cave Troll, along with a brand new release of Treebeard.

Two Towers (2002): 12 Inch Figures

The 12 Inch figure series continued with The Two Towers, with five total figures being released in their usual boxed format. Arwen was a re-release from the year prior, but Bilbo, Eowyn, Legolas and the Witch-King Ringwraith were new releases.

Two Towers (2002-2005): Weapons & Accessories

Toy Biz re-released the Electronic Light ‘N’ Sound Sting Sword and Uruk-Hai Crossbow Set for The Two Towers line. They had both been previously released for the Fellowship of the Ring line in 2001.

Once again, Toy Biz released a solid effort, consisting of several waves of new and re-released figures, along with large sized figures, multipacks, gift packs and various accessories.

Many of the figures released for The Two Towers were new figures to the line, although there were certainly some re-releases from Fellowship of the Ring as well. Among the highlights from the figure line included Eomer, Eowyn, Faramir, Prince Theodred, Possessed King Theoden, Dungeons of Isengard Orc Captain, Boromir Captain of Gondor and Twilight Frodo. Like the two previously lines, Toy Biz also released a series of Horses with Figures, 12″ Figures, Large Sized Figures, Multipacks and various Gift Packs. This line sold very well, and was able to maintain their high sales from the previous movie, Fellowship of the Ring. These toys can now be found in abundance at just about every comic, toy or hobby shop at reasonable prices. Overall, this is a fairly inexpensive line to collect and easily found, but definitely takes up quite a bit of space.

The packaging for the Two Towers line was similar to the previous movie, but the color theme was now changed to a nice shade of Red. As before, Toy Biz released the first five waves on a lovely eye-catching “Half-Moon” package before switching a “Small Card” blister pack. Personally, I loved the look of the Half-Moon packaging, but they could be difficult to display or store due to the odd shape. The smaller carded packaging are certainly much easier to store and display, but definitely lacked the flair of the larger Half-Moon package. All other items from this line came in the same Red colored packaging. The early release gift packs came in the regular Two Towers Red, but later releases had different color schemes, depending on which gift pack it was.
