Beetlejuice launched on the big screen in 1988 and became an instant cult classic. With a bit of an adult theme, there was limited merchandising with no toy lines being initially made available for the movie. The following year in 1989, Kenner launched their Beetlejuice toy line that was based on the movie (more of less) with a splash of the new animated series mixed in. The cartoon series launched in 1989 and ran until 1991. The animated show would become a big hit with young audiences and drew children to the toy aisles. Kenner’s new toy line tried to capitalize on that success, while still paying homage to the original movie.

Kenner’s toy license had expired in the late 1990’s, so NECA (National Entertainment Collectibles Association) snatched up the merchandising rights and began their own Beetlejuice toy line in 2001 with five individually packaged figures and a few multipacks. NECA released another line in 2008, in conjunction with their popular “Cult Classics” action figure line. This time, the only character released was Beetlejuice himself, in a few different versions with the highlight being the Talking 18″ Beetlejuice figure. In 2020, NECA released their latest Beetlejuice figure in conjunction with the “Toony Terrors” figure line, with no variants being made available. NECA’s new figures were much more detail oriented than Kenner’s line and really paid homage to the beloved original movie in a big way.
Over its somewhat limited history, Kenner and NECA released some really fun and memorable Beetlejuice products since 1989. Just like every toy line, the values of certain items can greatly fluctuate over time. This is based on several factors, including the item’s time period, scarcity, overall condition, and of course, consumer demand. The good news for Beetlejuice collectors is there is usually a high demand for items from this franchise, as the brand has certainly reached an iconic phase. Loose individual figures and accessories from the Kenner line can still be found on the secondary market in plenty, with a couple being harder to find than others. Boxed or carded items can mostly be easily found for the most part. Some items can still fetch quite a bit of money, especially the Talking 16″ Figure and Neighborhood Nasties figures. Same with the NECA figures, as they can usually be found in plenty on the secondary market, with a few being tougher find, such as the 18″ Talking figure and Cult Classics figures. Values for Beetlejuice items have been steadily increasing of late, mostly due to the upcoming Beetlejuice sequel arriving in theaters this September. This means the market should remain strong due to an ever present nostalgic desire from kids who grew up with Beetlejuice and a loyal fan base. The figures, vehicles, and other accessories from the Beetlejuice lines will only increase in value as these figures and accessories become rarer and harder to find in the future.
