Batman & Robin (Kenner) 1997 – 1998
Following the success of Batman Forever, Kenner returned to Gotham in 1997 with the Batman & Robin toy line, launched alongside the film that marked George Clooney’s debut as the Dark Knight. As the final entry in the original run of Batman films, the movie inspired a large and ambitious collection. The line encompassed a wide range of action figures in multiple formats, supported by an extensive selection of vehicles, playsets, multipacks, and special releases—including a Fuji Film exclusive Batman figure. Together, these offerings created a sprawling assortment that reflected Kenner’s all-in approach to the property, all designed in the film’s bold, highly stylized aesthetic.
For more information about Kenner’s Batman & Robin toy line, see bottom of page for a complete summary.
Batman & Robin (1997) Wave One
For the debut of their Batman & Robin line, Kenner released 9 new standard figures in 1997 which included Bane, Batgirl, Battle Gear Bruce Wayne, Heat Scan Batman, Hover Attack Batman, Ice Blast Mr. Freeze, Ice Board Robin, Jungle Venom Poison Ivy, and Razor Skate Robin.
Bane

Market Value:
Carded $17 – $24
Loose $8 – $12
Bane
Accessories: Double Attack Axe, Colossal Crusher Gauntlet, Serum Tube
Years Released: 1997
Difficulty To Find: Common – Easily found on the secondary market
Notes: Bane was not a main villain in Batman & Robin, but rather Poison Ivy’s enforcer. The Bane figure comes with a Double Attack Axe, Colossal Crusher Gauntlet and a Serum Tube. The sculpt on this figure is actually pretty nice.
Batgirl

Market Value:
Carded $16 – $22
Loose $7 – $11
Batgirl
Accessories: Battle Blade Blaster, Strike Scythe, Cape
Years Released: 1997
Difficulty To Find: Common – Easily found on the secondary market
Notes: Batgirl was portrayed by Alicia Silverstone in the Batman & Robin movie, and did not receive much praise from either critics nor fans. The figure comes with a Battle Blade Blaster, Cape, and a Strike Scythe, because……why not!
Battle Gear Bruce Wayne

Market Value:
Carded $18 – $25
Loose $9 – $13
Battle Gear Bruce Wayne
Accessories: Ice Block Armor Suit, Cape, Cryo-Claw Shooter
Years Released: 1997
Difficulty To Find: Common – Easily found on the secondary market
Notes: Battle Gear Bruce Wayne is essentially the same Bruce Wayne with armor figure that had been featured in nearly every Batman line by Kenner in the 90’s. He comes with an Ice Block Armor Suit and Cryo-Claw Shooter.
Heat Scan Batman

Market Value:
Carded $18 – $25
Loose $9 – $13
Heat Scan Batman
Accessories: Opti-Scope Launcher, Laser Ray Emitters, Cape
Years Released: 1997
Difficulty To Find: Common – Easily found on the secondary market
Notes: Heat Scan Batman was among the many Batman variants from this line. His orange and black paint job is certainly indictive of the heat based theme. Heat Scan Batman comes with his Opti-Scope Launcher, Laser Ray Emitters, and Cape.
Hover Attack Batman

Market Value:
Carded $17 – $24
Loose $8 – $12
Hover Attack Batman
Accessories: Blasting Battle Sled, Sickle Shields, Cape
Years Released: 1997
Difficulty To Find: Common – Easily found on the secondary market
Notes: Hover Attack Batman comes decked out in his traditional black costume, but he also comes with a high-speed Blasting Battle Sled, two Sickle Shields, and Cape.
Ice Blast Mr. Freeze

Market Value:
Carded $18 – $25
Loose $9 – $13
Ice Blast Mr. Freeze
Accessories: Ice-Ray Cannon, Rocket Thrusters
Years Released: 1997
Difficulty To Find: Less Common – Appears less often
Notes: Villains in the Batman movies are always a big deal, and it doesn’t get much bigger than Arnold Schwarzenegger’s portrayal of Mr. Freeze from the movie. He comes with his Ice-Ray Cannon and Rocket Thrusters.
Ice Board Robin

Market Value:
Carded $17 – $24
Loose $8 – $12
Ice Board Robin
Accessories: Laserwarp Launcher, Spinning Attack Staff, Cape
Years Released: 1997
Difficulty To Find: Common – Easily found on the secondary market
Notes: Ice Board Robin comes with a rather unique looking blue and orange paint job, but it kind of works. He also comes with his Laserwarp Launcher, Spinning Attack Staff, and Cape.
Jungle Venom Poison Ivy

Market Value:
Carded $16 – $22
Loose $7 – $11
Jungle Venom Poison Ivy
Accessories: Toxic Venom Spray Cannon, Entanglement Vines x 3
Years Released: 1997
Difficulty To Find: Common – Easily found on the secondary market
Notes: Poison Ivy was portrayed by Uma Thurman in the Batman & Robin movie, and (in my opinion) did a decent job. She comes with her Toxic Venom Spray Cannon and Three Entanglement Vines. Kind of strange how Mr. Freeze gets multiple figures in this line, but Poison Ivy only gets this one.
Razor Skate Robin

Market Value:
Carded $17 – $24
Loose $8 – $12
Razor Skate Robin
Accessories: Chopping Blade Launcher, Ice Battle Armor, Helmet, Cape
Years Released: 1997
Difficulty To Find: Common – Easily found on the secondary market
Notes: Robin gets another figure with Razor Skate Robin. This one comes with a Chopping Blade Launcher, a Helmet, Cape and set of Snap-On Ice Battle Armor. In case you’re wondering, yep, those are ice skates he’s wearing.

Battle Board Batman

Frost Bite

Market Value:
Carded $17 – $24
Loose $8 – $12
Frost Bite
Accessories: Ice Assault Luge, Self-Shielding Hockey Armor
Years Released: 1997
Difficulty To Find: Common – Easily found on the secondary market
Notes: Frostbite was one of Mr. Freeze’s henchman in the movie, and Kenner gives us a rare treat with a figure of him. He comes with his Ice Assault Luge, and Self-Shielding Hockey Armor. This is actually a pretty cool looking figure (no puns intended).
Ice Blade Batman

Market Value:
Carded $17 – $24
Loose $8 – $12
Ice Blade Batman
Accessories: Quick Deploy Ski Sled, Blade Runners, Blasters
Years Released: 1997
Difficulty To Find: Common – Easily found on the secondary market
Notes: Ice Blade Batman makes a return after being used for the Batman Forever movie line in 1995. He comes with his Quick Deploy Ski Sled, Blade Runners, and Blasters. The paint job was changed up on this to a pink and yellow color scheme.
Mr. Freeze (Cryonic Blast Bazooka)

Market Value:
Carded $30 – $45
Loose $14 – $22
Mr. Freeze (Cryonic Blast Bazooka)
Accessories: Cryonic Blast Bazooka w/ Projectile
Years Released: 1997
Difficulty To Find: Moderate Difficulty – Takes some patience
Notes: This is the second version of Mr. Freeze released for the Batman & Robin line. The figure’s sculpt is better than the Ice Blast Mr. Freeze version, with a better likeness of Arnold. He comes with a Cryonic Blast Bazooka with Projectile.
Neon Armor Batman

Market Value:
Carded $18 – $25
Loose $9 – $13
Neon Armor Batman

Batman & Robin (1998) Wave Three
The final six figures for the Batman & Robin toy line were released in early 1998, with Attack Wing Robin, Jet Wing Mr. Freeze, Laser Cape Batman, Mr. Freeze (Ultimate Armor), Rotorblade Batman, and Sky Assault Batman. Many tend to group these figures in with Wave Two, but they were released months afterwards, which makes them the third wave of figures.

Loose $14 – $22
Attack Wing Robin
Accessories: Vertical Assault Cape, Helmet, Cannon w/ Launching Missile
Years Released: 1998

Jet Wing Mr. Freeze

Market Value:
Carded $30 – $45
Loose $14 – $22
Jet Wing Mr. Freeze
Accessories: Glacier Assault Wing, Ice Blaster
Years Released: 1998

Notes: Yet another version of Mr. Freeze, this time it’s Jet Wing Mr. Freeze. This figure is another nice sculpt of the ice blasting villain, played by Arnold Schwarzenegger. He comes with an Ice Blaster Cannon and Glacial Assault Wing.

Loose $8 – $12
Sky Assault Batman

Notes: This was a clever idea on the part of Kenner, because it gave you the Batmobile vehicle, which was similar to the standard issue, and also gave you additional parts to allow you to transform it into the Batwing or Batboat as well. It should also be noted this was a re-release from the Batman Forever line in 1995.
The Batman & Robin line included three waves, consisting of 27 standard released action figures with 13 of them being different variants of Batman, along with six variants of Robin and four of Mr. Freeze. Wave One included: Bane, Batgirl, Battle Gear Bruce Wayne, Heat Scan Batman, Hover Attack Batman, Ice Blast Mr. Freeze, Ice Board Robin, Jungle Venom Poison Ivy, and Razor Skate Robin. Wave Two included: Ambush Attack Batman, Bat Board Batman, Blade Blast Robin, Frostbite, Ice Blade Batman, Mr. Freeze (Cryonic Blast Bazooka), Neon Armor Batman, Snow Tracker Batman, Talon Strike Robin, Thermal Shield Batman, Triple Strike Robin, and Wing Blast Batman. The final six figures made up Wave Three: Attack Wing Robin, Jet Wing Mr. Freeze, Laser Cape Batman, Mr. Freeze (Ultimate Armor), Rotorblade Batman, and Sky Assault Batman. In addition, there were five Deluxe Figures, five multipacks, several 12″ and 14″ figures, a few accessories, three large scale playsets (Cryo-Freeze Chamber, Ice Fortress, Wayne Manor Batcave) and 7 vehicles that included the Batgirl’s Icestrike Batcycle, Batmobile, Remote Control Batmobile, Ice Glow Bathammer, Jet Blade, Robin’s Red Bird, and the Triple Action Vehicle Set.
The packaging for Kenner’s Batman & Robin toy line was similar to past Batman lines, but with a completely new red and black colore schem. Once again, each figure got its own unique package on a fun looking card themed to the vibe of the movie. Each came on a traditional blister card, with the figure positioned on the right side of the bubble and its accessories on the left. The Batman & Robin logo was centered at the top left of the card, with the character’s name on the left bottom of the bubble. To the right bottom of the bubble was a unique illustration of the included figure. The illustration was a nicely drawn action pose for each character. The back of each card showcased figures and accessories from that particular wave, along with a small write-up at the top left of the card. Overall, Kenner’s Batman & Robin line was again very Batman variant heavy, but it was still a large and fun line to collect.
