Batman: Animated Series (Kenner) 1992-1994

Batman: The Animated Series (Kenner) 1992-1994

Batman: The Animated Series was a successful animated show that launched in September of 1992 and ran on the Fox Network for 85 episodes until September of 1995. Mid-way through the series’ run, it was re-titled The Adventures of Batman & Robin. The series was hailed as groundbreaking for the super hero genre, receiving widespread praise for its unique design and modernized source material. Kenner released their toy line based on The Batman Animated Series from 1992 until 1994, before rebranding it to The Adventures of Batman & Robin in 1995. Unlike previous Batman toy lines, this one had a variety of different characters, which led to its sustained success.

For more information about Kenner’s Batman The Animated Series line, see bottom of page for a complete summary.

The Batman: Animated Series line included four waves consisting of 29 standard released action figures with 11 of them being different variants of Batman, along with 4 variants of Robin. Wave One included: Penguin, Riddler, Robin, Two-Face Combat Belt Batman & Turbojet Batman. Wave Two included: Joker, Catwoman, Man-Bat, Scarecrow, Bruce Wayne, Ninja Robin, Infrared Batman & Sky Dive Batman. Wave Three included: Clayface, Killer Croc, Mr. Freeze, Poison Ivy, Dick Grayson, Bola Trap Robin and five Batman versions (Anti-Freeze Batman, Knight Star Batman, Lightning Strike, Rapid Attack Batman & Tornado Batman). The fourth and final wave included Bane, Glider Robin, Cyber Gear Batman and Radar Scope Batman. In addition, there were four Deluxe Batman variants, Batman Armor roleplay accessory, a 15″ Ultimate Batman figure, an impressive Batcave Command Center playset, and 13 vehicles that included the Batmobile, Batplane, Batcycle, Jokermobile, Robin Dragstor and more. And if that wasn’t enough, Kenner also gave us a small wave of figures called “Crime Squad” and another based on the animated movie Mask of the Phantasm.

The packaging for Kenner’s Batman: The Animated Series toy line was perfectly matched to the design of the popular animated series, with vibrant graphics and appealing colors. Each figure came on a traditional blister card, with the figure positioned on the right side of the bubble and its accessories on the left. The classic Batman Animated Series logo was to the top left of the card, accompanied by a beautiful illustration of the character to the top right. The character’s name appeared above the illustration on the right side. The back of each card showcased all the figures and accessories from that wave, along with photos highlighting each figure’s action features. Overall, Kenner’s Batman Animated Series line was a strong effort, offering an improved character selection over the limited selection over previous Batman lines.
