The Clone Wars Animated line was launched in 2003 and only lasted that one year. The line was based on Genndy Tartakovsky’s Clone Wars animated micro-series, which aired on the Cartoon Network. The figures resembled the more cartoony look of the series. The selection of figures was somewhat limited with some main characters being left out, and the series was not as widely distributed as other Star Wars lines. The packaging featured an explosion on a white card with a cartoon version of a clone trooper side profile towards the top left, and an animated picture of the actual character on the right side. The Cartoon Network logo was placed on the top right corner of the card.
Due to its unique look and some creative sculpting, this small line remains very popular with collectors. The Tartakovsky Clone Wars series was recently re-released on the Disney Plus streaming service, which has introduced it to a brand new audience. The show has become popular once again, which has driven up the value on the original figures from 2003. The figures from this line have risen in value, but they still remain fairly affordable on the secondary market. This line would be a good one to pick-up while they are still in a good price range.
The Clone Wars Realistic line was also launched in 2003, and continued into the next year. The line was also based on Genndy Tartakovsky’s Clone Wars animated micro-series, which aired on the Cartoon Network. Unlike the previous animated line, these figures had a more realistic appearance. Making realistic looking figures from an animated cartoon was a pretty unique thing at the time, and these figures were very cool looking. Once again, the figure selection of figures was somewhat limited with some of the main characters being left out.
The numbering of this line began with Anakin Skywalker at 03 – 42, because it was basically a continuation from the Star Wars Saga line. The packaging was a nice throwback picture of Luke’s hands holding his lightsaber from the classic 1977 Star Wars poster on a dirty rust style card. There was a portrait of the character on the bottom left of the blister card. The Clone Wars logo ran down the left side of the card in a dark blue background. Like the animated version, the line was very limited, but still gave us some great looks of classic Clone wars characters, not to mention crazy cool ships. This line can be easily found on secondary market, and at very reasonable prices.
